Pet Food Pantry
In an effort to reduce the number of cats and dogs that go hungry or are relinquished at our local animal shelter, Anicira offers pet food assistance for residents of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
The Pet Food Pantry hours of operation are the second Saturday of each month between 10 am - 12 pm. Applicants must also provide proof that pet(s) are spayed or neutered. Spay/neuter surgery and vaccines may be offered at no charge for pets of qualified individuals.
Aidan's Friends Fund
This fund was inspired by a dog named Aidan and the people who rescued him from a life on a chain. The fund subsidizes the cost of spay/neuter surgeries for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County dogs who otherwise would not have surgery.
Since its inception, over 1,000 dogs have been assisted through this fund.
The Feline Fund is dedicated to assisting Rockingham and Harrisonburg cats. Over 4,500 cats have been spayed/neutered through this program.
The center offers $40 spay/neuter surgeries for American Pit Bull Terriers and Pit Bull mixes residing in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. This program was developed in response to the high number of Pit Bulls being euthanized in regional shelters without ever knowing the warmth of a home or the love of a family.
Augusta County GIS Project
Geographic Information Systems is an exciting field in animal welfare. By analyzing shelter intake data, we can identify the communities most in need of veterinary assistance and target services to reduce the number of pets entering the shelter.
We are collaborating with the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center and James Madison University’s Geo-Spatial department to develop a proactive community outreach campaign.
